Demonstration Plant Manager

About the role

– This role will report into the General Manager.
– We are seeking a skilled Manager to lead the operation of our Demonstration Plant on Belfast Harbour Estate.
– This is an exciting opportunity to manage a recently built, first of its kind plant designed to recycle magnets for the production of Rare Earth Oxides.
– You will be responsible for line management of a team of Operators (craft and non-craft) who will provide day-to-day operation of the Demonstration Plant during periods of both office hours and shift working, as production dictates.
– You will work closely with the Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and QESH functions to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the plant.
– You will utilise operational data to recommend, deploy and track operational interventions for optimised process output.
– You will be able to demonstrate your capability to lead and manage a team in a dynamic and rapidly progressing work environment.
– You will also be part of the Management Team, including Finance, Chemistry, Engineering and Business Support.

Duties & Responsibilities

– Manage the operations team (consisting of craft and non-craft Operators).
– You will be responsible for managing the staff rota for the Demonstration Plant, drawing from your team and the wider pool of Engineers and Chemists.
– You will ensure that the plant operations and maintenance is all completed to an excellent standard.
– You will identify, extract, interpret and report plant data with a view to continuously improving process.
– You will execute Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety processes to ensure compliance, with effective communication to and from the QESH Manager.
– You will provide effective line management to an initial team of 8 operators.
– You will review plant performance and work with the Engineering Team to improve process efficiency.
– You will manage contracted work safely and effectively.
– You will minimise downtime to plant, by implementing good maintenance practises.
– Maintain employee records (attendance, annual leave, sick leave etc.) according to policy and legal requirements, and produce reports as needed.
– Review employment and working conditions to ensure legal compliance.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

– You will have either a relevant Science or Engineering degree, or you will have a relevant third level or above in Electrical, Mechanical, Process or Operations Engineering.
– You will have experience of leading a team of technical operators.
– You will be familiar with statutory testing regimes and plant safety practises including handling of hazardous chemicals.
– You will have excellent data handling, interpretation and reporting skills.
– You will have excellent stakeholder management skills and be able to work with other departmental representatives.
– Proficient in MS Office; knowledge of Employment Hero or a similar HRM would be a plus.
– Outstanding organizational and time-management abilities.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude.
– Strong ethics and reliability.

Desirable Qualifications & Skills

– Working knowledge of chemical handling practises.
– Understanding of magnets and associated handling practises.
– A qualification in business or operations management.
– Chartership or working towards it.
– Experience with a range of plant scales.
– Qualifications/experience to qualify as an Authorising Engineer.
